No doubt you’ve heard the rumblings coming out of sources around Hasbro, but we’ll bring you up to speed just in case: there is one helluva earworm rumor that G.I. Joe is, in fact, headed toward a 6-inch line, and that line may begin with a San Diego Convention exclusive in 2015.
Which character would spearhead such an honor? Word is, it would be Snake Eyes and Timber.
And that’s about as far as it goes. This is the equivalent of trying to plan an invasion with 3-day-old cloud-covered aerial photos… being described to you over the shortwave by somebody who claims to be looking at them. So, suffice to say, I’m not ready to mount up just yet.
But, holy crap, do I want to.
Lots of questions at this point: Modern or Real Action Hero classic? Gentle Giant, or somebody else? Retro, Retaliation, Resolute, Renegades, or some other R-word? Cartoon, comic, concept art or cinematic? At least if Timber is with him, we can maybe narrow down the last ones a little.
Another line item in my list of rambling thoughts on this line is a little more fine-tuning than actual concern, but my mind races when it comes to what style a 6-nch Joe line might actually be. We all know that Star Wars Black and Marvel Legends are done in the same scale, sure, but the aesthetics, proportions and the like are very different between the two — would G.I. Joe be done in a more bombastic superhero style, or a more subtle, realistic one? Or would Hasbro be going somewhere completely different? Certainly they wouldn’t be going the Mezco route and try and bring something like the Sideshow G.I. Joes to 1/12, would they?
I’ve written several editorial blog-post-type thingies on this exact subject, and the prospect that this might be a reality has left me a little speechless. Do I swear off my SDCC sabbatical? Sorry, California, I like the people, but your state makes me want to punch it in the nuts. But if it gets me a 6-inch Snake Eyes…
I’m going to need some more intel before I draw up plans for an op. But, man oh man, am I in a mood to draw!
