3rd Party Jedi Robes by rickhor409

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_01Soft goods are a somewhat controversial subject amongst action figure collectors, some love the cloth capes and cloaks and some hate them. In general, I prefer all sculpted plastic on my action figures, but the 6 inch Star Wars Black Maul, Obi-Wan and Anakin have used soft goods effectively to retain full range of motion for these ‘skirt’ wearing characters.  It shouldn’t be a surprise to find the use of soft goods in these figures as Star Wars figures have incorporated soft goods throughout their many lines, starting with the original vintage vinyl Vader, Obi-Wan and Leia capes through their modern lines.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_02Darth Maul came with an alternate hooded cloak, however Anakin and Obi-Wan did not receive similar treatment and felt a little incomplete to me without their trademark Jedi long hooded robes.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_04I bought one for Obi-Wan a few months ago that I liked quite a bit, but it did not hang as well as I would have liked and looks best with the hood down.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_05The cloak looks just as good to my eyes as what you would get from Hasbro, if not better.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_06The latest cloak I ordered for Anakin is made of a super soft almost t-shirt like material that I think hangs better than the material used on Obi-Wan’s cloak.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_07The sleeves seem slightly too long, but I really like the way the hood looks up or down.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_08 Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_09The robes themselves are fairly cheap, costing 7.50 with 4.00 shipping and though I wish Hasbro had included them to begin with, I feel like they are worth the price to jazz up these figures a bit.

Hasbro Star Wars Black Anakin Skywalker with Custom Jedi Robes_11The robes come in a few shades of black and brown (Anakin here has “Dark Cocoa” and Obi-Wan “Siena” and are a nice option to complete your Black Series Jedi figures if you enjoy the look of soft goods.

  1. Old question, but I believe it’s:

    1st party – Hasbro
    2nd – You
3rd – someone not you or Hasbro

  2. The hair and beard was a base of carrot top red (09242) and highlight orange (09243) from reaper. I mixed some yellow into the highlight orange because upon re-watching episode III, it struck me how almost blonde Obi-Wan’s beard was. I think I took it too far and will try a wash to knock it back a bit as it’s really bright.

  3. I don’t know the origins of the words but my understanding is:
    1st party = the original manufacturer/publisher/etc.
2nd party = owned subsidiary of 1st party
3rd party = separate entity not affiliated with 1st party

Or you were just making a joke and it went right over my head, but that’s unlikely because my reflexes are fast and I would catch it.

  4. I agree that your pics are excellent. Do the first scenes depict the infamous “nest of gundarks” incident mentioned in Ep.II?

  5. fortunately, I’ve never had a problem with eyes in the 3 3/4” scale. Maybe it was small enough that most errors weren’t noticeable. I’ve found the 6” scale paint apps to be really off-putting for the most part. I even saw a Stormtrooper in a story the other day but the paint was so sloppy I passed up on it.

  6. Hasbro has struggled with painting faces for as long as I can remember. I completely skipped their Indiana Jones line because I couldn’t ever find an Indy that didn’t have crazy googly eyes. Repainting eyes on 6 inch figures is one thing, but I can’t imagine doing on the smaller figures.

  7. I did get the Glassman obi. I painted it myself and need to do some more work on the hair and eyes. I use a few different brands of paint. The skin tone is reapermini Master Series Paint “Rosey Skin” and the Rosey shadow and highlight for the shadow and highlights of the face(09067-09069). I usually use Citadel Miniatures paints or testor’s model master’s acrylic.

  8. I agree, except even Luke’s face paint was pretty monotone. Hasbro has really been struggling with quality control since Wave 1

  9. Pricey for me, anyone have an alternative….been looking for a cheaper alternative for robes and the killer blue jacket that Steve ROgers wore in the Winter Soldier movie for my 6″ figures.

  10. The Force is strong with this one!”
You speak of the prophesy to bring balance to our wallets.
Indeed, they need to include the robes for the money.

  11. Matt, EXCELLENT pics as always!!! I’m curious…is that one of those Glassman customs, shrunken Obi Wan heads? If so, did you paint his head or did you buy it pre-painted? Yours looks pretty good. I was wondering what paints(brand/colors) were used, since I have a Glassman one to paint.

  12. I was so excited about this line at first – series 1 had great paint (X-Wing Luke’s head), unnecessary extras (Han’s gloved hands and trooper belt), and alternate heads (Darth Maul).

Sadly, I’ve only been disappointed since then.
