The 2013 Masters of the Universe Classics (MOTUC) line ended with a bang with the fiendish Filmation freak Plundor! Plundor is yet another MOTUC figure to divide the fan base. I personally love the Filmation episode “Quest for He-Man,“ and this character’s design and backstory are really appealing. He’s basically the most benign-looking creature with a dark and twisted inside. Plundor is greed and murder wrapped up in a pretty pink bow, and I love it.
Plundor™ Bio Real Name: Plundor the Spoiler
Corrupted by power and obsessed with money, Plundor™ is a genius inventor who travels the universe, seeking out new ways to increase his riches. When he came upon the utopian planet Draedus, Plundor™ used his evil machines to ravage the planet and distill its precious life force into a small vial to be sold to the highest bidder. He-Man® happened upon Draedus after Skeletor® erased his memory and sent him through the Crossroads of All Universes. He-Man® met the planet’s displaced creatures and helped them return the life force back to Draedus and imprison the evil conqueror. Plundor™ invents flying robots and machines to become the richest being in the universe.
As you would expect, the bio matches Plundor’s appearance and backstory in the Filmation episode note for note. There’s not a lot of new information here, but it does clarify that Plundor himself invents the machines and robots. I would have assumed he stole the technology, but the fact that he actually has some real tech smarts makes him a bit more interesting and formidable.
Plundor comes with two accessories: a gray version of the Webstor/weapons rack blaster and Skeletor’s axe from the Filmation Episode “The Diamond Ray of Disappearance.” The weapons rack blaster repaint appeals to me in that I love getting the classic old weapons in different repaints, similar to the power sword, shield, and axe; it’s cool to see this sculpt in a new colorway.
Though this color scheme is really similar to how the rifle was previously released in the weapons rack, it’s still appreciated and the gray looks good with Plundor’s pink and red color scheme. The blaster is cast in semiflexible plastic and there is no warping on mine. I do wish there was a little more distance between the two handles on this rifle so it would look a little better in a two-handed firing pose.
The axe is another one of those Filmation-specific accessories that fans have wanted over the years, so it’s a nice get. It matches the artwork well for certain frames, but the pole at the top is a little long for the axe’s appearance in other scenes — this is more of a Filmation issue than a 4 Horsemen issue.
The axe looks fantastic with Skeletor, and while not really intended for Plundor, he loooks cool wielding it. The axe is cast in a clear plastic that is a little bit more flexible than I would like to see, but it can be straightened. An interesting (and probably unintended) feature of the axe is that the metallic paint lets some light through it so the blades can glow when the light hits them just right.
While I like both of these accessories, a more appropriate pack-in for Plundor would have been one of his Rabbots from his episode. The egg shaped, rabbit-eared robots were his main weapon in the episode and would have been a fun accessory. They are a little large in the show, so I could see why that did not happen.
Plundor reuses the Beastman body with some Keldor boots. He has new furry, gloved forearms; a new armor piece; new clothing; and a brilliant new head sculpt. The torso armor is really more like a ’70s superhero costume (think Nightcrawler) than armor, and it adds some nice detail with indented seam lines, raised costume piping, and rivets.
The highlight of the figure for me is the head sculpt. It has a detailed fur sculpt to help bring it in line stylistically with the furry MOTUC base body merged with the Filmation design. The result is one of the creepier head sculpts in the line. His eyes are a little scary, like he’s completely unhinged — and that’s perfect.
Articulation
Plundor has the standard MOTUC articulation and it is not hindered by his armor or costume.
Plundor has a bit of a drybrush on his head sculpt to bring out the fur sculpt, and some glossy bright yellow paint for his crazy eyes. There is also some of metallic red accents to the two-tone red in the costume. It’s strange that Geldor’s two-tone red costume seemed a little too plain to me, but for some reason it works fine with Plundor.
Overall I like this figure quite a bit. They chose a great base body to build this creepy character on and did a beautiful job translating the Filmation design to the MOTUC style.
