SDCC 2013 – Mattel Saturday Updates

Mattel made a couple changes to their display today, removing the Horde Trooper armor and adding the Jet Sled to the Grayskull display.  The Windraider was in there as well, but looked a little crowded.  The good news is that the sled has a hole for the Wind Raider stand, so that might look better in there.  There were also a few new bios revealed.  I couldn’t get a good shot of Plundor’s bio, but it was basically the episode re-told.  We also got to play a bit with the Horde Trooper and the good news is that he can move his head down a bit so the “eye” can be partially covered by the collar.

  1. The helmet issue I can live with. Liking everybody (well Nepthu is iffy, just watched ep, I hoped he would get Hepunched but never happened)

The Horder Troopers look great and I will take a guess on the under, extender maybe, or another robot or maybe an underside to Rioblast.

  2. I apologize if I wasn’t clear in my text but the headline pic of the trooper was VeeBee pointing the head down as far as it would go. A lot more of the yellow visor is visible in this version of the trooper than the vintage or the cartoon. It actually most resembles some artwork I saw by Emiliano Santalucia that showed possible concepts for the MOTUC trooper.

  3. I’m curious what the reuse plans might be for the robotic torso under the Horde armor. Anybody have any thoughts?

  4. Man, I just don’t get you folks… Firstly, have you even read what Matthew wrote? You can tilt his head down to get the desired effect. Secondly, that Trooper is a 100% new sculpt, which is a testament to the commitment put forth at making this figure the figure it deserves to be. IMHO, it is sheer perfection. Thank you Four Horsemen!

  5. The helmets! Please mattel! Redo them! We have been waiting for this figure since ages! Everything is more than fine, but the helmet just do not look right. Must be settled deeper and the visor could be a bit broader.
    But the rest: awesome!!

  6. Is what’s pictured above supposed to reflect the Horde Trooper with the helmet pointed down? Because I’m still hating it. The eyes are just wrong; this needs get sent back to the drawing board.

  7. The head is sitting too high. The original looked better. It’s like the same issue with the other Robot. The head sculpt is just bad.
