First Look – Voltron Blue Lion and Princess Allura

When discussing the Blue Lion from Voltron with fellow fans, there is always one prevailing question that has to be settled right away — are you Team Sven or Team Allura? Well, coming next month (if you are a subscriber to Club Lion Force) you can settle it once and for all and have your choice as the age-old debate steps into the cockpit and makes all of your flying multi-cat robot dreams come true. While we are still hoping for a chance to bring you a First Look at the aforementioned exclusive Sven figure, right now we have lots and lots of pictures of the standard August combo, The Blue Lion and Princess Allura. You were just here for our Green Lion First Look, so come on in — you know the drill.

We are hip-deep in our SDCC preparations at the moment, so I am going to just make it quick and let pictures do the talking. The completion of Voltron is getting so close you can practically taste it. By the year’s end all of the waiting and anticipation will (hopefully) be made worth it when the 23” behemoth can finally form. Along the way you have collected Lance, Hunk, Pidge, and their appropriate Lions, so aside from the integral Keith and the giant Black Lion, Princess Allura and big Blue make up the final appendage combination. I know, it is no coincidence that you cannot assemble anything until you have everything, but in the August release you do get what I consider to be the best Lion of the lot thus far.

Yep, I think the Blue Lion is best that has been released thus far, but that might be partially due to the fact that my favorite color is blue. Yeah, I know. The fact of the matter is that if you have any of the previous Lions, especially the Yellow, you pretty much know what you are getting in the Blue Lion in terms of construction. I find the larger Voltron “leg” pieces to be the more solid Lions, and Blue matches Yellow at just about every turn. Of course, the sculpt details are different to match the unique qualities of the Blue Lion. The head sculpt is the most apparent as usual, but the tail and body have their call-outs as well. In terms of construction, the spring-loaded legs match in sturdiness to the Hunk’s ride, which is overall stronger than the arm Lions, and the neck has a smoother movement system to account for balance in the ankle of Voltron.

Princess Allura also matches her counterparts in terms of expectations. Her articulation is pretty much the same as the boys, but she, of course, has a unique body sculpt. She has two interchangeable heads (one helmeted and one showing off her blonde locks). Included in her packaging is the blue “key”/figure stand as well as the top of the hilt of the Blazing Sword. You can finally assemble most of the blade and, as you can see, the finished product is going to be pretty impressive in terms of size. She also has a stand to help support the Blazing Sword for display, though it is not really effective at this point because you also need the one coming with Keith in order to hold the sword.

Well, Lion Fans, we are in the home stretch. Allura and big Blue make up the final Voltron appendage, so all we have left is the body. Like I said, I think this is my favorite Lion overall, but deciding who will be the main pilot will be a tough one because I love both Allura and Sven. The combo goes up for sale in August at Matty Collector, and if last month’s Pidge figure is any indication, the Blue Lion won’t hang out for very long.

*Thanks to Natalie and Toy Guru and team for sending the Blue Lion along, and thanks for sticking with us through all of these Voltron Lion First Looks. We are almost there, almost there!

  1. That seam running through the middle of the cockpit looks horrible. Her face looks pretty good though, much better than the awful Hunk and Pidge heads.

  2. You know on the feet, if you click the fore paws back they line up with the fold down support, keeping it from rocking (at least the yellow did)
