April 27, 2012
By Matty

Here’s your first official look at the products we’re planning to have available at this year’s convention. Some items will be available for pre-order at our voucher pre-sale from 5/30 at 9am PT through 6/14 at 11:59 pm PT for pick up at SDCC or after the show here on MattyCollector.com, and all will be sold at SDCC. Check back for updates, including images of the Hot Wheels® vehicles and the reveal of something ghoulishly good from Monster High®!

——————————————————————————–

Masters of the Universe® Vykron™ ($30)

If clothes make the He-Man®, then this pitch prototype for the 1982 lineup is destined to be the star of the MOTU 30th Anniversary celebration thanks to a choice of three outfits: barbarian, spaceman, and military warrior! You’ll get him in-package dressed as a barbarian only at SDCC , but you can find him here at MattyCollector.com after the show packed as a spaceman or military warrior (all three outfits are included regardless of where he’s purchased). Want to know more about this multi-purpose warrior? Set includes one “buck,” or figure, with three different outfits/helmets to interchange between space, military and barbarian looks. Check back for the history of Vykron™, soon to be disclosed…

——————————————————————————–

DCU Tiny Titans ($20)

They may be miniscule, but they’re mighty! The core team of Tiny Titans is rendered in 1-1/2” scale in this 5-pack of collectible figures including Robin, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. Sidekick City Elementary is just a quick bus ride away with packaging featuring specially commissioned artwork from Tiny Titans’ series creator. The display base has both the official Tiny Titans logo and a “flight” stand just for Raven.

——————————————————————————–

DC Comics Vertigo™ Death ($25)

Some envision Death as a grim reaper or dark angel to be feared. But as created by Neil Gaiman for DC Comics’ line of Vertigo comics, the Sandman`s older sister is pretty, perky and always gets the job done. She`s been around since the beginning of time and is exactly the kind of girl you`ll want to follow into the unknown. Our 8” figure of Death wears her trademark ankh necklace and comes with a skull-themed display base.

——————————————————————————–

Ghostbusters™ Dana as Zuul ($25)

“There is no Dana, only Zuul!” Our long-awaited 6” figure of Dana Barrett as Zuul from the first Ghostbusters™ features authentic, film-accurate sculpting right down to her golden gown. And, with two interchangeable lower bodies she can stand or, when she tires of waiting for the coming of Gozer, sit on the included bench display.

——————————————————————————–

Disney • Pixar Cars 2012 Comic-Con Mater ($30)

This year’s Comic-Con vehicle captures the hilarious scene from Cars 2 when our beloved Mater finds himself in a Tokyo bathroom stall. Just like in the movie, Mater is surprised with flashing lights, catchy music, and a thorough scrub down! This memorable moment comes to life with moving side jets, as well as a jet that springs up to clean Mater’s undercarriage, lifting his back wheels off the floor. Covered in suds, Mater experiences hi-tech action unlike anything he’s ever seen in Radiator Springs!

——————————————————————————–

Polly Pocket® DC Comics Villains Set ($19.99)

It’s a guaranteed adventure with this trio of comic-book character costumes for Polly® and her friends! Polly®, Lila® and Lea® arrive in a themed 3-pack dressed as their favorite DC Comics villains: Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn.

——————————————————————————–

Images of these items are in the works as you read this so be sure to come back soon!

•Hot Wheels® Masters of the Universe® Volkswagen Drag Bus
•Hot Wheels® Scooby-Doo!™ The Mystery Machine
•Hot Wheels® K.I.T.T. Knight Industries Two Thousand
•Monster High® – To be revealed. It’s a mystery to us, too!

  1. So what were saying is we are seeing the Death of the DC line … I get what ya did there Mattel, very cheeky. By the way, YOU SUCK.

  2. The American Economy may be wheezing its last and a World wide depression may be setting in…. those in power may not be out to save the dollar.
“With great power comes great responsibility.” P.Parker

Our time is running out!! There have not been figures like Mattel’s Four Horsemen since……ever.
And may not be again for quite some time.

  3. Mattel should strike a separate deal with Marvel to do the Marvel Universe.
    That would stir things up!!
Come on, Mattel, give us some action figures to buy.

Golden Age Heroes that are in the public domain would even be nice.
Or…. Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake, Ming …..
The Original Daredevil, The Claw, Crimebuster, Iron Jaw, ….Black Terror, Sheena– Queen of the Jungle, Captain Freedom, Shock Gibson, Black Cat, Fighting Yank, Catman, Black Owl, Magno and Davey, Lightning, Unknown Soldier, Captain Courageous, ….The MLJ heroes: The Shield, Black Hood, Hangman, etc. etc.

Put them under a “Classic Golden Age Heroes” line….

Geeeesh!! Give us some Mattel/4 Horsemen action figures. This time may never come again.!!

  4. keep in mind folks dcuc was cancelled so dnt be expecting anything from them they are just gonna release series 1 of the all stars and thats it!

  5. Boo! Is Mattel trying to kill the DCUC line on purpose? They think that by not offering a DCUC exclusive, that they are dirrecting fan traffic to the web site, when in fact it’s the direct opposite. By not offering anything at retail or an exclusive it inivertantly directs collectors away because their intrest sway to other mediums. It’s simple buisness. They are good at girls toys and have been for years. Besides Hot Wheels I guess.

  6. The first posting I read is from DCUC fans in shock that there isn’t a definite DCUC figure. The marketing for Mattel is still trying to kill this line an here is the proof that there is a love for this line that passed what the stores see as relevant.

  7. The only one I’ll get is Dana as Zuul! The rest are MEH! If Death had been a DCUC figure in scale and articulate, it would have been a no-brainer to get that one. Since when has Mattel been in the business on making cheap (as in quality, NOT price) PVC statues? I thought that was DC Direct’s domain.

  8. @RazorLight: Sure the exclusives should be hardcore, but they should be hardcore towards their largest demographic of customers. Taking a wild swing I would say the average DC Comic Con Exclusive purchasing demographic is 18-40 males, who value the articulation element that Mattel offers that DC Direct doesn’t. Two of these exclusives are designed exclusively for little girls, one is essentially a statue of a Indie character, and one IS a statue (albeit of a main character of a cult classic). Only one of these exclusives is an actual action figure…in the MOTU line. No DC action figures from a company that produces articulated DC figures. They dropped the ball bigtime here. No point in making exclusives that nobody wants. (On second thought, they might be going for that group of boyfriends/fathers looking to get their girlfriends/daughters into comics…….Nah, they screwed up.)

  9. Vykron, Sir Laser Lot, The Mighty Spector, The Star Sisters… can’t wait for this damp squib of a 30th Anniversary to end. If this offering that marks the 30 year celebrations existed back in 1982 its very doubtful we’d actually remember MOTU 30 years later. Why doesn’t Matty just give us the icing on the cake and end the year with a Crackers the Clown figure and a Widgets army builder pack?

  10. The items may seem lackluster to most fans/collectors, but these are exclusives so they should be for the hardcore. This makes more sense than offering popular characters like Orko w/ Prince Adam or Plastic Man.

I’m betting Death is considered 8″ with the base, and that she is the DCUC 6″ offering this year. Swamp thing recently crossed over to DC in Brightest Day, and Death as well with her appearance in Action Comics #894 (ignoring the fact that all of that was wiped out with DC’s New 52). She’ll probably have cool packaging, perhaps a gravestone. It would be cool for her to come with an umbrella, but knowing Mattel any possible accessory was probably cut–oh wait, she has the ankh necklace. Is it possible this is just an early prototype shot and she will have articulation akin to most DCUC?

  11. figured if they ever got around to dana as zuul she would wind up having due to be able to control the table or the demon dogs an exclusive. though surprised to see death for thought vertigo characters were off limits to mattel.

  12. Is Death supposed to be the DCUC product?
Doesn’t look like there’s much articulation there.
Unless her knee and elbow joints are hidden underneath some kind of Swamp Thing-ish skin.

…Actually, who cares, not buying her either way.

    VERY disappointing.

Was really hoping they’d go with Shining Knight, since they already tooled that horse for She-Ra.
