Club Infinite Earths Poll Results Part II – The Oversize Figures

In Part 1 we (finally) revealed the results for our Top 5 most wanted standard, monthly figures for Mattel’s DC subscription program, Club Infinite Earths. Now we bring you the results for the Top 3 “oversize” figures.

Just as we did with the monthly figures, let’s take a look at the runners-up.

  • Killer Croc
  • Lead
  • Elongated Man
  • King Shark
  • Starro
  • Winged Victory (w/Shining Knight)
  • Thunderbolt (w/Johnny or Jakeem Thunder)

Right away, it needs to be pointed out that Lead and Elongated Man suffer from “which category to they fall into?” syndrome. If we combined the votes they received in both categories, either character would have cracked the Top 3 oversize poll. That’s one of the big questions collectors have about the upcoming Infinite Earths subscription: what qualifies as an “oversized” figure offering? Obviously, it covers actual oversize figures, but it also includes characters like Metron who come with a large accessory piece. So what about Elongated Man? Would he come with additional pieces that would put him over the top? Lead wouldn’t be much bigger than Etrigan, who was issued as a standard figure. But with costs having risen over the years, does a figure that size now rate the “oversize” label? These are questions we are all dying to know the answers to, but it looks like we won’t know until Toy Fair in February.

Looking at these runners-up, the other thing that strikes me is: Thunderbolt, Winged Victory, Starro…these are some of the picks a handicapper might have predicted for the top spots. If they didn’t make the top 3, then who did?…

#3 Rocket Red (76 votes)

A key member of Justice League International, Rocket Red would bring some great diversity (in both aesthetics and nationality!) to any DCUC collection. Being a natural “army builder”, Mattel would be well served putting him in the subscription. Day-of sale purchases for him might spike, as subscribers stock up on a few extra to round out their Rocket Red battalion. If they do choose to make Double R, I hope they won’t try to just re-work the Stel tooling for him. Rocket Red really needs a whole new sculpt.

#2 Doomsday (128 votes)

Fans have been clamoring for a new, larger size Doomsday ever since the DCSH version came out years ago. When Darkseid was given a new, larger edition in wave 12, that clamoring got louder and it hasn’t abated. A more accurately sized Doomsday figure would be a hugely popular choice for a quarterly sub figure.

#1 Elasti-girl (137 votes)

People either want to finish the Doom Patrol or maybe just want to use her head for their incomplete Giganta Collect & Connect figure. Either way, this giant lady stands head and shoulders above all other candidates to easily top the poll for oversized figures.

Thanks to everyone who voted. We’re sorry it took so long to get the results up. Sometimes “real life” gets in the way.

Hopefully 2012 will see several of these figures made, the subscription will prove a great success, and we’ll have to conduct a new poll for a second subscription year!
