Top Ten Winter 2011 Results – DC Universe Classics

No big lead in, no wordy to do. We have the results of the DC Universe Classics Top Ten just in time for the Mattel Toy Fair 2011 reveals. Prodigy and VeeBee are taking write-up duties and really, this might be the best results we have ever had. Seriously.

Hey! Let’s start with the Collect and Connect!

Collect and Connect – Elasti-Girl

Elasti-Girl

Rita is now officially the most overdue character in the DCUC line. We have been Doom Patrol-less for almost a year now after starting so strongly with Robotman and Negative Man. C’mon Mattel, we have only had one female Collect and Connect and we require Rita to get us moving on with our Doom Patrol display. She would be a fairly straight forward figure and could probably borrow quite a bit of the existing Giganta parts. Put her in a series with Mento so we can welcome our action figure doom!

#10 – Liberty Belle

Liberty Belle

You know what is awesome? Four out of my top six females (that I will ALWAYS vote for until they are made) have made the cut on the official list. Liberty Belle comes in a number ten overall (though she is number one in my heart) and man, we need a figure of Ms. Quick-Tyler. Ever since the Geoff Johns re-launch of the JSA book after the “one year later” jump, Jesse has seen her popularity skyrocket. And why not? The daughter of two superheroes finally found a good niche after being “just” as speedster for so long. Plus, the Liberty Belle costume is one of the best female superhero costumes going right now. It is traditional, very eye-catching and totally unique. Now, Jesse has been going back and forth between the Belle and speedster costumes, but if we had to pick, we choose Liberty Belle. Woo! Let’s make it happen, Mattel; once again you have the opportunity to give DC fans a first figure and it is about damned time, this legacy has been going for decades!

#9 – Stargirl

Stargirl

Coming in at number nine, our little girl is rapidly growing up. As she used to be more of a supporting character in JSA, Courtney is quickly rising to a more prominent role in the team. Could be one of the reasons why she jumped up eleven spots to make it in the top ten this time around. Plus since Mattel has already made a Star Rod for series 15 Starman, it’s high time we get to add Stargirl to our JSA shelf.

#8 – Ice

Ice

You know how Fire and Ice are always lumped together and there have been Top Tens in the past where Ice has gotten more votes than Fire and people ask, “Who the heck would vote for Ice but not Fire?” Yeah, this guy right here has voted for Ice and not Fire in the past when there was not room in my personal top ten. Well, fortunately that was not the case this time around and Fire and Ice came in tied with the same number of votes. I love the character of Ice so much and yeah, I was one that got tricked into a fit of fanboy rage when Mark Waid (whom I normally adore) killed off poor Tora from my beloved JLI. It is cool that she is back now, but it would be even better if she could stand in plastic with Guy and Ted and Booster. Fire and Ice would go great in a series together and would be a nice way to start to fill in the League’s International ranks. Oh, and she MUST be in the Adam Hughes costume!

#7 – Fire

Fire

Jumping up five spots to crack the top ten for the first time, Brazilian beauty Beatriz shows that she’s more than just a pretty face. From the beaches of Rio all the way to the Justice League Fire has established herself as one of DC comics leading ladies. Now it’s time for us to get the figure that she deserves.

#6 – Granny Goodness

Granny Goodness

We need Granny’s loving care! YES! Granny Goodness in a Top Ten – that might be the best part of this whole thing. We were treated to a myriad of Fourth World goodness early in the DCUC line, but there has been a harsh drought lately. Well, the best way to get back to that goodness is with GRANNY GOODNESS! The malicious matriarch of Apokaliptian orphanages is needed to stand with sneer next to her ruler and god Darkseid to help usher in the plastic denizens of the pits. Now, she did get a little bolster from a recent appearance in the DC Animated Superman/Batman: Apocalypse movie so what better time to strike the hot iron? C’mon Mattel, we have NEVER had a Granny Goodness figure, add her to the list of breakthroughs for this line. Then give us her Furies.

#5 – Ra’s al Ghul

Ra's al Ghul

This one is a no brainer. Ra’s has always been one of Batman’s deadliest and most dangerous enemies. So our DCUC collection just can’t be complete without Damien Wayne’s Grandpappy. Rising from seventeen to five, it looks like Ra’s is ready to battle Batman DCUC style!

#4 – Flash [Jay Garrick]

Jay Garrick

Being a large-type fan of the JSA, there are several names on this list that make me smile and Jay Garrick is certainly one of them. The final third of the current “elder statesmen” of the JSA (along with Alan Scott and Ted Grant), you cannot split a team’s soul in three and then keep the last piece from us. Much like Ivy, Jay is an obvious no-brainer for the line as any self-respecting JSA and/or Flash fan cannot have a DC Universe action figure display without him. Fortunately, there is not a ton of room for debate in the costume department as his ensembles have been slight variations on the original, but bagginess of the pants is probably a spot for discussion, along with his lightning bolt. After getting the version of a kind of compromise with Alan Scott in term of portrayed age in his head sculpt, Jay will probably follow suit. Oh, and make that big silver bowl had slightly askew!

#3 – Huntress

Huntress

So hot. Want to touch the heiney….ahem. Huntress makes a repeat trip to the DCUC top ten, but actually drops back a spot from two to three. Not really a big deal considering she missed the number two spot by two votes. Looks like a couple of Fwooshers blew it! Helena has been kicking butt in Gotham City and in the pages of Birds Of Prey for quite a while now, and while wearing a ridiculously skimpy outfit none the less! Definitely a must have figure for any Bat fan or even a fan of ass kicking female characters, Huntress needs a figure of her made pronto.

#2 – Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy

Green is traditionally the color of envy, but in the DC Universe Classics line, it really is the color of characters that Mattel likes to keep in their back pocket to string crazy fanboys along. Yeah, you know what I am talking about. Martian Manhunter didn’t show up in the line until series 15 and he was a ubiquitous part of these Top Tens until everyone was sure he was coming out. Well, I fully expect that Pam here is the new J’onn. Green is the new green. Batman’s most high-profile rogue without a figure Ivy is a given for the line eventually and with a Batty movie coming next year, her chances for a sooner than later release are probably strengthened. Which version though? A more Bronze-Aged “natural” flesh tone or full on jolly green goddess? Why settle? A variant head sculpt and two paint decoes will get them both done.

#1 – Catman

Catman

Capturing the top spot this time around Catman moves up two spots in this year’s top ten results. His rise from a c level Bat villain to one of the true badasses of the DCU has been nothing short of amazing. From the pages of Villains United to the Secret Six Thomas Blake has quickly become a fan favorite and a much needed add to the DCUC shelf.

Well, that does it, the full results are below, let’s see if tomorrow holds any luck for these most demanded characters!
