Action Figure Spotlight – Plan B Toys WWII Jeep

Check out some pics and thoughts on this super cool Marvel Legends scale vehicle after the jump!

I first saw this 1/12 scale jeep on the last day of the San Diego Comic Con in 2007.  It was a clearly impressive piece of work and called out to me even though I wasn’t collecting the Plan B WWII figures at the time.  Unfortunately, I was all out of money at that point in the con.  Since then it kind of became a holy grail of mine.

Comes with all you see here!(sand not included.)

Well, maybe holy grail is overstating it a bit.  I wanted one, but I really didn’t put much effort into looking for it or tracking it down until a couple of months ago when Plan B figures came up in a Froosh discussion.  I posted about my love of that jeep I missed out on and Ron mentioned it was up for sale on the Plan B website.

I was excited, but a little cautious.  Plan B had been closed down for a while as a toy company, so I wasn’t sure if I sent them any money, I would get anything in return.  Long story short, a test purchase later and I have my jeep!

The jeep comes with a driver.  The driver is the standard American soldier body from their WWII military figures line.  These are great figures if you can track them down.  The articulation is neck swivel, double hinged shoulders, bicep swivel, elbow hinge, wrist swivel, waist twist, double hinged hips, knee swivel and hinge swivel.

The helmet is removable and he comes with all sorts of ammo pouches and equipment that can be plugged into his belt and arranged any way you like.

The driver fits well int the jeep, though he sits a little stiff due to the lack of an ab crunch.  The wheel pops off so you can place the figure in the driver’s seat.

The jeep is molded in a nice dark green plastic and has plenty of paint detail to simulate wear and tear.  I’ve gotten used to the extreme weathering in Ashley wood figures, so I wasn’t initially blown away by this weathering, but looking at the pictures again I’m liking it more.

I love the grill on this jeep.  There are a couple of different pieces that make up the front of the jeep and I’m impressed that they went the extra mile for a bit of realism there.

The gas can and spare tire are not removeable.  They kinda look like the might be, though.  The plastic they used for the headlights and brake lights have a nice realistic quality to them.

The interior is well detailed with extra greeblies to denote shifters and gauges.  The wear and tear paintwork in here is also really good.  The floor looks appropriately scuffed up.

There is also a machine gun mount in the back seat and heavy machine gun with ammo case and bullets.  The gun is a great detailed sculpt.  I’m no gun expert, but it seems to me that the bullets should be glued to the opposite side of where they are, feeding out of the ammo case.  I could be wrong, though.

The windshield is articulated so you can place it up or down.

The jeep cost 50 dollars plus shipping costs that I don’t quite recall.  They seemed reasonable, though.  I want to say the jeep originally cost more at SDCC, and toys in general are more expensive now, so this feels like a pretty good deal to me.  They still have some available at http://www.plan-btoys.com/store.html#wwii if you are interested.

I think it works well with the WWII ultimate cap figure.

Now c’mon Mattel, make with the Sgt. Rock DCUC figure!

  1. You were talking about the bullets on the m1919 on the back of the jeep. I’m a reenactor and have seen boat loads of that weapon, it feeds from the left side of the weapon, the ammo box should be on the other side unless they are using short ammo belts

  2. Got mine today. Really love the jeep but a little frustrated about getting the driver in the seat and Cap at the gun in the back…They’re just SLIGHTLY too big. Strongly considering sawing off the driver’s feet to make him sit flush in the seat.

  3. Wow, super cool. I did a graphic novel last year and the characters ride around in this exact jeep. Consider it bought!

  4. Excellant, love these figures and often pondered getting the Jeep. The fact that it comes with the driver is a HUGE bonus
