Welcome to the final installment of our chat with Chris, Cornboy and Eric of the Four Horsemen. The gloves have come off and we hit the guys with a rapid fire question and answer about possible upcoming characters in the DC Universe Classics line. Who struck their fancy? There is only one way to find out…
Fwoosh: Well guys, we know you are busy and we have taken quite a bit of your time but I just wanted to get back to DC again for just a second- just to toss out a few names and get a gut reaction of them. If you like them, if they are good possibilities, anything.
Cornboy: Ha-ha!
Eric Treadaway: This could get dangerous!
CB: Probably the biggest name we have yet to do. Just a question of when.
ET: He is a total fan favorite too.
CB: Not an "if", just a "when".
ET: He is a Super Powers figure, he is cool looking, chances are good.
Fwoosh: Favorite GA costume?
ET: Classic, yeah. Super Powers.
CB: I mean, I like the hooded one too.
ET: Super Powers will be my answer to everything. [laughs]
Fwoosh: Liberty Belle?
CB: She is a little bit obscure to the general public but she is a character that could utilize some existing tools so I am sure Mattel would be very into doing her.
Fwoosh: Kamandi?
CB: WOW! Man, how I would love to do Kamandi. That would make an awesome Comic Con exclusive. Wow. Yeah, he has always been one of my favorites. That might be one that I start pushing for now that I got Shazam. I have already been pushing for the Metal Men so we will see.
Fwoosh: Ooh, Metal Men!
ET: Yeah, CB is a big Metal Men guy.
Fwoosh: What about Swamp Thing? Is he available?
CB: We have found out that he is available.
ET: [pointing to Chris Dahlberg] This guy is dying to do Swamp Thing.
CB: DYING for it.
ET: You know you are going to have an enthusiastic sculptor on that one!
Fwoosh: If you had your choice then, would you want to go standard figure size or C&C size?
Chris Dahlberg: I would probably want to go bigger. I mean, he doesn’t have to be huge but I think he needs some size.
Fwoosh: I can’t even imagine what that figure would look like with all of the intricate detail.
CB: Yeah, I would imagine that you would have to use some of the stuff from when Alan Moore was writing it, or some of those guys- that was some awesome stuff. Like you said that would work well, I am not sure about C&C size, but certainly a little bit larger. Going back to the really old version would be great too though, so I don’t know.
ET: There is a lot of really good stuff to pull from. That is the type of character that is not one of those smooth guys in tights so when we get to guys like Swamp Thing we can just go nuts on it. It is cool because if we are going to get to do a figure like that we are going to take FULL advantage of it.
Fwoosh: That was the feeling when I first saw Kalibak I thought you guy just jumped on that and went crazy.
CB: Thinking about that now you know, if it is thought out well enough, we could, with a few well placed parts and stuff we could do a couple of different classic artist’s renditions of him.
ET: [to CB] so you are saying something like, standing around one day and brainstorming?
CB:Yeah! Exactly! [laughs]
ET: That Kalibak figure though, that was the last one that I did for the first year of product so that was the one out of the whole year that was my highlight guy so it was cool that he was the pinnacle of the year.
Fwoosh: Best for last?
ET: Oh yeah! That is the way I do it too. Like when I work on a figure- I start with feet, like when I am finishing it and I do the head last. Anticipation.
Fwoosh: Sweet relish.
CB: [laughs] Man, that really pisses me off- I am sitting here waiting for this thing and these guys are working on them and they have the head kind of roughed out but everything is all clean and smooth and then they have this blob sitting on the shoulders! I am like "Where’s the damned head?"
Fwoosh: Oh, Forever People?
ET: Fourth World, oh yeah.
Fwoosh: Jonah Hex?
CB: He is such and awesome character.
ET: Well Swamp Thing and him both, I like the way that would expand the line out a little bit more, just broaden the feel of it a little bit more. Yeah, he is cool guy, that would be a great one.
Fwoosh: Expanding the line, eh? Well, old fat ladies could certainly do that too… Granny Goodness? I know again, the New Gods thing is there but she has NEVER been done…
ET: I have been talking to Bill at Mattel about this and I always say to him and I have said it to CB because we would love to see Granny Goodness: "If we get to Granny Goodness, we are doing something VERY right". That is one of those unlikely action figures of all time. She’s old.
Fwoosh: She is kind of fat…
ET: She is fat, she is a woman so that is tougher to get through in the first place.
Fwoosh: Total bitch…
ET: [laughs] Oh yeah, she is a bad guy. Man, I would love to get her out.
CB: Ed Asner in Kirby Drag!
ET: If you could get that on the Toys R Us or Wal-Mart shelf you have done something truly amazing with the line.
Fwoosh: Indeed and I don’t think we can top that for finishing this off so guys, thank you so much for taking the time.
CB: Oh, thank you.
Fwoosh: We all appreciate all the things that you guys are doing so it is fun to chat about it.
ET: Oh man, we appreciate what you guys are doing too.
Fwoosh: Keep an eye out, we have a pretty passionate group there.
ET: Oh yeah, there are few on there that you could call "Rabble Rousers" I think. [laughs]
Fwoosh: Quote fights!
ET: Exactly! [laughs]
CB: The thing about those kinds of guys though is that they start stuff just for the sake of starting stuff but you have so many more people who are even more passionate that just hand it right back to them! It’s awesome!
Fwoosh: Strikes a good balance, keeps everyone on point, that is for sure. Mattel seems to be listening in some aspects. Like with the Wonder Woman here and the one sample they showed at the NY comic con.
ET: Yeah, she and Captain Atom were the two that really benefited from the change in vendors. She looks a lot better.
CB: Yeah, they brought the old and new factory Captain Atoms to show the fans that they are listening and they want to make this line as kick ass as they can make it.
Fwoosh: I think most people are sleeping soundly on this line right now. It is not so much specific characters, it is "who ever" because it really is wide open right now.
CB: Fun time to have so many options.
Fwoosh: Indeed. Well thanks again guys.
ET: Thank you.
Fwoosh: We will be talking to you soon and we will see you around the boards!
ET: Oh yeah.
CB: We will be there!
